I found a great article from Hill, Barth & King LLC regarding the Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS), which will be mandatory for the majority of business owners come January 2011. The article spells out who needs to do what, along with the when, where and how. Since it’s a government mandate, we won’t even bother with the “why.”
My contact at the IRS offered the following information, based on questions they’ve been receiving from business owners:
• In response to the proposed regulations, some taxpayers expressed concern about having access to EFTPS without a computer. Please let them know that EFTPS is accessible by phone also. (EFTPS Customer Service: 800.555.4477)
• Some taxpayers received EFTPS pre-enrollment packages (Letter 4631 with an EFTPS pre-enrollment PIN letter and an activation brochure) subsequent to enrolling in EFTPS. Taxpayers already enrolled in EFTPS should disregard the pre-enrollment information and use the enrollment they previously created.
